Grrl2Grrl is a US based lesbian, bisexual and bi-curious online community. As such, online dating with Grrl2Grrl is secondary to the community features, with the lesbian personals being just one element of the whole Grrl2Grrl online experience. However, whilst some users may be put off by this, we still think the site offers users a great opportunity to meet other like minded women and forge long-term, stable and meaningful relationships. The range of features on the site (of which there are many, read on...) mean that it's possible to really get to know members of the Grrl2Grrl community, leading to successful and stable relationships for many on the site. the site isn't however, that large and there's not a massive footfall on the site either, so we do think readers who may be thinking of joining up to Grrl2Grrl should put this in perspective - especially given the price tag.

The site goes to some effort to emphasise that this is a male-free zone, and as such it’s exclusively for women. You can even report a member who you believe to be a man. Meanwhile it invites all sorts of women to its ranks so there’s a lot of variety in the membership, rather than being exclusively femme or butch. Photos are generally of acceptable quality but could be far better, and space for photos is limited as even VIP Venus members can only upload up to 10 photos.

The wide range of features is perhaps Grrl2Grrl's greatest asset, offering users the chance to properly engage with the whole online community and get to know other members. The site has most of the usual features you would expect - photo profiles with an unlimited number of uploaded images, forums, in-site email service and chatrooms (split into six major themes) - all of which work perfectly well and seem to be fairly active. Grrl2Grrl really comes into its own however when we checked out some of its more unusual features. Users have the chance to share experiences (good and bad) with other users, getting to know them at the same time, using the 'Dare to Share' and 'Devil's Diary' functions, where users leave stories, testimonials, confessions and more for the community to discuss and enjoy. The 'Out! and About' function allows users to get in contact with other users in areas they may be traveling to, getting help with travel, accommodation, sightseeing and more (as well as connecting with a potential hook-up in the area!) The 'Ask Dykeboots' feature allows users to post their problems and questions online, in order to get supportive help and advice from an online agony aunt. All of these features encourage members to get to know other users by sharing their experiences, something that we think has a positive influence on dating success.

Although this all sounds positive, the lack of activity on the site doesn’t really inspire enthusiasm. When we were reading over the Dykeboots section, for example, the most recent post was over a year old. Whilst the advice was personal and direct we felt that this might not be a good sign if you wanted to post a query yourself. The chat room fared better and included 3 members other than our own log in, but again this is hardly overflowing and you cannot choose a particular topic or section to discuss, it’s simply a free-for-all.

It doesn't end there though! Users can also check out the 'Girls on Film' and 'Books for Babes' sections for reviews, comments and conversation about recent or classic lesbian-themed books and films. In a similar manner, users can share their favorite recipes in the 'Appetite for Seduction' section, letting other members try them out and leave comments. While all of these features may seem a little odd to some of our readers, they are perfectly suited to the community atmosphere that is encouraged on Grrl2Grrl, and we were generally very impressed by them.

Overall, Grrl2Grrl is a decent site that offers a range of supportive and community-based features. It does so, however, at the expense of some of the more traditional features associated with online dating, such as instant messaging (which is considered a standard on many online dating sites currently on the market). That said, some users may find the absence of such features a pleasant change, especially if they have had unsuccessful encounters with more traditional dating sites in the past. We would suggest to our users that they check out what the site has to offer, through the trial membership option, to see whether it is right for them.
